Maloney’s top student aspires to help others through technology

MERIDEN — Two decades back, as a sophomore at Maloney Substantial Faculty, Havi Nguyen was introduced to laptop science and coding.

Nguyen reported she was in particular drawn to the challenge-solving element of coding.

All through her years in substantial school, Nguyen compiled a cumulative 4.8 quality place average. But she did not just focus on teachers and researching. 

“I preferred to make the most of my time below,” she claimed. So Nguyen grew to become extensively involved in a number of golf equipment, such as her school’s LEO Club and the Black College student Alliance. 

LEO stands for Leadership Encounter Options. The club is focused on carrying out assistance assignments at Maloney and in the Meriden local community. 

The LEO Club lately held drives for the Meriden Humane Modern society and arranged fundraisers for triggers like breast most cancers consciousness. Nguyen eventually became the group’s president. 

Nguyen grew up in Meriden. Her mother is Kimanh Vu and her father is Do Nguyen. She has a brother who is 21. 

Nguyen attended Thomas Hooker Elementary College and Thomas Edison Middle University. She recalled when she was in fifth grade that an educator, who wasn’t her instructor, produced a prediction. 

“She constantly instructed me that I would be valedictorian,” Nguyen mentioned. But as a fifth grade student, she was not so sure.

The same educator attended Maloney’s recent Best 10 student evening meal. “She handed me a take note that I gave her from fifth quality, exactly where I wrote, ‘thank you.’”

In the note Nguyen insisted that she would be valedictorian. She could not believe that her previous educator had held onto it for all those people many years.

And that educator would not be the only man or woman to acquire take note of Nguyen’s educational accomplishments. 

“Havi is a single of the best learners I have ever experienced, simply one of the most accomplished students,” claimed Daniel Lobner, Nguyen’s State-of-the-art Placement United States Record trainer in her sophomore yr. 

Lobner described his previous pupil as deeply insightful and a outstanding author. 

“She was so eloquent and digs deep into record and actually displays a potent know-how of it. She was just an amazing college student all round and I really loved getting her in class,” he explained. 

And despite the actuality that the COVID-19 pandemic forced faculties into whole-distant finding out during the calendar year that Nguyen took AP US Record, she excelled, Lobner said.
